Big stores, large markets and shopping centers have not arrived on Contadora Island. There are just a few places to shop on the island. Save your big shopping for the mainland and exploring paradise for Contadora Island.

The Shopette
This is the only place on the island to buy hats and shirts with the name Contadora. They also have a small variety of Panamanian crafts and clothing. There is also some standard tourist items as well as travel necessities.

The Handycraft Market
Here they have a collection of Panamanian jewelry. A small shop with a good selection, it is worth stopping by for a visit.

Coral Dreams Dive Shop
Guillermo and his wife run the local dive shop. They sell snorkeling and scuba gear as well as maps and some books of local interest. They are very nice people so be sure to stop in and say hello.

PURCHASING FOOD & SUPPLIES

Blandys
Every Thursday or Friday the Barge arrives from the mainland with fresh supplies. Blandys has a good selection of liquor as well as the freshest vegetables and fruit. They also carry the basics you will need for your visit.

Super Mercado
For frozen meats on the island the Super Mercado is your best bet. They also carry the basic necessities but their fruit and vegetables typically are not as fresh as Blandys.

The Shopette
Not as well stocked as Blandys or the Super Mercado, The Shopette is a good place to stop in to purchase a cold soft drink or a beer. They carry some food items but they are mostly prepackaged. Think of them as the corner convenience store.

Local Fisherman
Nothing beats fresh fish or lobster for dinner. Usually in the afternoon just off the shore of Galeon Beach you will find some fisherman anchored. Just yell out to them and ask if they have any fresh fish (unos pescados in Spanish). Depending on the time of year they will have Mahi-Mahi, El Dorado, Mackerel or several other indigenous fish. In addition to fisherman on occasion skin divers walk the beach with buckets of fresh lobster. Usually $2.00 - $4.00 a piece they are absolutely delicious. Don’t be surprised if you get a knock on your door one late afternoon and someone is standing outside with fresh seafood.
