The airfield on Contadora Island is serviced only by smaller aircraft.

To get to Contadora one must first travel to the capital city of Panama City. With the incredible growth in the tourist and retirement communities in Panama, air travel to Panama has greatly expanded.

All international flights arriving in Panama City land at Tocumen International Airport. The International Airlines which service Panama City include Delta Air Lines, Continental Airlines, American Airlines, EVA Air, Lacsa, TACA, Mexicana, Aviateca and United Airlines.

Once you arrive in to Tocumen Intl. Airport it will be necessary to take a taxi to the domestic airport, Aeropuerto Gelabert or also called Aeropuerto Albrook ( Albrook is the name of the former U.S. Air Force base which built and operated the airfield for many years).

Taxi fare to the domestic airport is $30.00 per taxi (number of riders in the taxi does not matter.) Flights leave twice daily from the domestic airport to Contadora Island. There are two carriers to choose from when traveling to Contadora. They are Aeroperlas and Air Panama. Reservations can be made online and airfare is usually $65.00 for a roundtrip ticket to the island.

One important note is domestic Panamanian Carriers do not fly at night. Therefore, if you arrive at night (the Delta Air Lines flight for instance arrives at 9:00 P.M.) you will have to spend the night in Panama City and take the morning flight to Contadora Island. Many people prefer to stay at least one or two night in Panama City to check out the city, Panama Canal, rain forest parks or other attractions Panama offers.
